In 2015, our studio had the privilege of hosting a family portrait fundraiser to support the Wheatley family after their son, Chase, was diagnosed with leukemia at just 12 years old.
What began as a portrait event quickly became something much more meaningful... families coming together to support one another during an incredibly difficult chapter.
One of the things I’ve always believed is that portraits matter because people matter. Too often, families wait for the “perfect time” to update portraits, when life slows down, when schedules are easier, when they lose a few pounds, or when things feel less hectic. But life keeps moving. Children grow. Chapters change. And the moments we think we’ll get around to capturing can quietly slip by.
This event served as a reminder to celebrate family now, while also giving back to a local family navigating an unimaginable journey.
I’m incredibly grateful to every family who participated, shared the event, purchased portraits, and helped support Chase and his family. Your kindness, generosity, and willingness to show up for others is what made this event so special.
Over the years, community-centered portrait events and fundraisers have become one of the most meaningful parts of what we do at Pam Long Photography. Whether supporting local nonprofits, families facing hardship, or organizations making a difference, it has always been about more than photographs. It’s about connection, community, and using our gifts to help people feel seen, supported, and celebrated.
And of course, creating beautiful portraits families will treasure for generations along the way.
