Spring is a season of renewal and this time it brought with it something truly meaningful.
Our You Are My Sunshine portrait fundraiser was created to support the Howard County Conservancy after their educational building suffered significant flooding on Christmas Eve 2022 due to a burst pipe during a brutal cold snap. When I first heard what happened, it hit close to home.
As a small business owner on Historic Main Street in Ellicott City, I’ve experienced firsthand what it’s like to rebuild, again and again. Two devastating floods within two years, followed by the COVID shutdown, changed everything for our community and our families. Those experiences shaped not only how I run my business, but why I do what I do.
So when the Conservancy needed help, I knew we had to step up.
You Are My Sunshine brought families together on the breathtaking grounds of the Howard County Conservancy for a day of mini portrait sessions filled with laughter, connection, and intention.
For each session booked, we donated $100 directly to the Conservancy.
The result was more than portraits.
✨ Families created images they’ll treasure for generations
✨ New relationships and community connections were formed
✨ And together, we raised $1,600 to support environmental education and restoration efforts
This is what happens when art and community come together with purpose.
One of the most moving moments of this fundraiser came from our friends at Clark’s Elioak Farm.
Despite facing their own pipe damage and challenges from the same cold snap, they generously donated $1,000 to support the Conservancy, bringing our total donation to $2600!
Martha Clark and her family continue to exemplify what true community spirit looks like, showing up not just when it’s easy, but when it matters most.
I am deeply grateful to every family who participated and trusted us to capture portraits of the people they love most. Their generosity extended far beyond the camera, they showed up with open hearts, joyful energy, and a genuine desire to make a difference.
Their smiles, their laughter, and their belief in this mission are what made the day unforgettable.
A heartfelt thank-you to my incredible team of volunteers. Their enthusiasm, kindness, and selfless dedication are the reason the day flowed so seamlessly.
Community impact doesn’t happen alone, and their willingness to give their time and energy made a lasting difference for everyone involved.
We were also incredibly moved by the outpouring of direct donations made through the Conservancy’s website, as well as the many offers of hands-on help.
Meg Boyd, Executive Director of the Conservancy, shared how grateful she was for the overwhelming response from the community. That level of support is a testament to her leadership and to the dedicated staff and Board of Directors who work tirelessly to protect our environment and educate future generations.
Their commitment truly makes a difference and I hope they feel how deeply appreciated they are.
At Pam Long Photography, community impact isn’t a side project, it’s part of our purpose.
