Front Steps for Blossoms: $1,921 Raised for Blossoms of Hope

When we couldn’t gather in our usual places, our front steps became a place to see one another.

The Front Steps Project began with photographer Cara Soulia in Needham, Massachusetts. She generously shared the idea with photographers around the world, and I was grateful for the chance to bring it to families in Howard County and Catonsville.

Over several days, my friends and Board members of Blossoms of Hope, Ross Hecox and Michelle Wildman drove me from home to home so I could photograph families outside, from a safe distance. Each visit was brief. There was no need to dress up or make everything picture perfect. The invitation was simply to come outside and be yourselves.

In exchange for a digital portrait, I invited each family to make a donation to Blossoms of Hope. Like so many charitable organizations at the time, Blossoms of Hope had to cancel fundraising events, yet its work supporting worthy causes in our community continued.

Together, participating families raised $1,921 for Blossoms of Hope.

Thank you to every family who stepped outside and took part, and to Ross and Michelle for spending several days on the road with me.
