Two years ago, in honor of International Women’s Day, I launched my Clean Out Your Closet Challenge, a multi-week clothing drive benefiting Success in Style and designed to help local women step into new opportunities with confidence. What began as a seasonal invitation to clean out closets quickly became a powerful example of what happens when generosity meets community action.
By partnering with local businesses across Ellicott City, Columbia, and Catonsville, we made it easy for people to donate professional clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and accessories, items that could directly support women preparing for interviews, reentering the workforce, and rebuilding confidence during times of transition.
And our community showed up in a big way.
What began with one donation bin quickly gained momentum week after week.
In just a few short weeks, our community donated eight large bins of clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and accessories.
Eight bins filled not just with things, but with POSSIBILITY.
Each article of clothing, handbag, necklace, and pair of shoes represented more than a donation. Each item became part of someone else’s next interview, next opportunity, and next beginning.
Success in Style does far more than provide clothing.
They help women prepare for interviews, reenter the workforce, and move forward with confidence by providing professional clothing, styling support, and the kind of encouragement that helps someone feel ready to walk into the next room with their head held high.
A well-fitting blazer can shift confidence.
A polished handbag can help someone feel prepared.
A great pair of shoes can change how someone walks into an interview.
And that confidence can change the trajectory of someone’s life.
That is what made this drive so meaningful.
This is the heart of Community Impact: using local collaboration to create tangible, lasting change.
This initiative would not have been possible without the generosity of the local businesses who opened their doors, served as donation drop-off locations, and helped amplify this effort throughout their communities.
A heartfelt thank you to:
Your willingness to participate made it easier for people to give and expanded the reach of this effort far beyond what any one business could have done alone.
That is the power of community partnership.
A special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Success in Style, whose work behind the scenes turns generosity into opportunity every single day.
Sorting donations. Organizing inventory. Preparing clients. Creating confidence.
Their dedication is what transforms donated items into meaningful support for the women they serve.
And to every person who cleaned out a closet, jewelry box, or shoe rack and chose to give, THANK YOU.
Your generosity made a tangible difference.
Your participation created opportunity.
Your spring cleaning became someone else’s fresh start.
While my Clean Out Your Closet Challenge has long since wrapped, the mission behind it continues.
Success in Style continues to provide clothing, confidence, and support to women working toward economic independence and new opportunities.
If you are doing a little cleaning out during any season, consider setting aside the pieces you no longer need. What no longer serves you may be exactly what helps someone else take their next step forward.

The Clean Out Your Closet Challenge was a reminder of what is possible when community, compassion, and collaboration come together.
It was never just about clothing.
It was about confidence.
It was about dignity.
It was about helping someone begin again.
And it was a beautiful reminder that when small businesses and community come together with purpose, meaningful impact follows.
